How to Embrace Impermanence

impermanence

“Thanks to impermanence, everything is possible.”

~Thich Nhat Hanh

It is in the drying out and falling of the leaves in Fall

and in the the green buds of Spring.

It is in the death of a loved one

and the birth of a new baby.

It is in the slow changing of a river’s course

and in the daily ebb and flow of the tide.

It is in the phases of the moon

and in the lengthening and shortening of days.

It is the way of Mother Nature and Father Earth,

and the only way in which we are truly alive.

As the tree does not cling to its leaves,

you can release what no longer serves you.

As human life takes its course,

so do incarnations of your personality.

As water becomes fetid if not in constant motion,

you can become a swamp of your own making through resistance to flow.

As the sun and moon are ever-changing in the light they give,

you have times of greater and lesser abundance.

Don’t hold on: release.

Allow yourself to be fluid.

Shine when you feel it, and hibernate when you feel that.

Honor your impermanence,

Because within it is your possibility.
